I was able to talk to Paul on the phone for a few minutes. I asked him what his hobbies and interests were. He said that when you have 11 kids you give up having hobbies and interests. After a little more prying I learned that he used to love to go for walks, but now that he has his bike, that is what he enjoys most. (I think Paul could probably beat any of us in a race... except maybe John.) He likes keeping current, and knowing what’s going on in the world. He reads lots of magazines at the library including Newsweek, and Time. He also likes to read about Eastern and Western ancient history. One of his hobbies is to exercise, which he does regularly. He loves to eat German food which he enjoys once or twice a year at Siegfried's, in Downtown Salt Lake. He enjoys the Black Forest Cherry Cake for a special dessert.
I asked Paul if he could think of anything interesting that the family might not know about him. He then proceeded to tell me a rather funny story about a summer job he had while attending college in Sacramento, CA. He got a job putting in pools, working for an 80 year old man who could barely see. On his first day of work they drove out to the eastern part of Sacramento to an absolutely beautiful area, then pulled into a nudest camp. Paul thought the guy must be joking... but no such luck. There Paul worked for a few days putting in a pool, and having several people talk to him in their birthday suits!
Happy Birthday Paul!!
